Finding a photographer on Instagram should be one of the easiest things you’ve ever done. I mean, Instagram has the world’s biggest pool of photo talent. Well, that is part of the problem. There are just so many photographers on Instagram it can become overwhelming very quickly. So, at Rachel Z. Photography, your San Francisco photography guide, I want to walk you through how to find a photographer on Instagram.
Keyword Searches
If you are simply looking to browse through a limitless talent pool, then you can start with the broadest of keyword searches.
To do a keyword search, tap the search icon on the Instagram app, then tap the search form that appears at the bottom of the screen. Now you can enter a keyword in the search bar.
For example, just searching for a photographer will pull up matches in the widest sense. However, time is valuable, so you are probably looking for local photographers, such as photographers in San Francisco!
Simply add the area you want in the search bar as well. This will bring up anyone who has been labeled a photographer in the area/city you are looking in.
Places Searches
The places search function on Instagram works the same way as a location keyword search, except that it uses your physical location to find photographers in your area.
Make sure you have location tracking on, or this won’t work for you.
Now when you run a search for a photographer, it will pull up a list of local photography businesses near you.
Tap any of the results and you can click on the profile to check out their profile and photo examples. You can also get contact details from this page as well.
Tag Searches
Hashtags provide one of the most effective ways of finding photographer on Instagram.
In order to run a hashtag search, tap on the search icon and then on the empty search bar. This will bring up the search menu.
Tap tags and enter some words that apply to your search, like wedding, photography, or San Francisco.
You will then be treated to a list of relevant hashtags, including the number of posts available for each.
Tap on one and you’ll be treated to a whole gallery of photos. Pick one you like and you can follow the trail back to the photographer’s profile where you can reach out if you’d like to.
